Sunday, July 15th

Filed under: Sunday Review — Phyllis Rice @ 8:36 am

I’m sure you’re all worn out as I am after a day of running yesterday, but it was certainly worth it. We started our Sunday morning off with Mrs. Ramsey going to the different SS classes to promote the VBS that started last night. During the service we had the privilege of a song from Mrs. Ramsey and the message from Mr. Ramsey. He gave us an overview of what we will be hearing this week about Pilgrims Progress.

Last night was the first night of the VBS and we now know we have 2 teams. The blue and the gold. We will keep you updated this week as to which team is ahead. If you didn’t make it last night, come on out tonight. We promise you a good time. See ya there! (pictures later this week)

Vacation Bible School

As I was thinking of what to write today, Bible School seemed to be the obvious topic. We will begin our Vacation Bible School Sunday night. This will be my first time to see the Ramsey’s in action and I can’t tell you how excited I am. I often hear people talk about the spiriual impact that summer camp has on them and how they never forget it. As I think back on my childhood, one of the things that had a huge impact on me spiritually is Bible School. And I’m sure this one will be no different for our children and the children in our community. Don’t forget to invite those you meet in the next few days. This is for all ages. Remember this could be important in the life of someone so invite, invite, invite.

For Ladies!

Filed under: Ladies — Phyllis Rice @ 9:10 am

Hi Ladies! I wanted to remind you of the new SS series we will start this Sunday. It is called “Critical Decisions”. This is a study that I believe will be a great help to us in our everyday lives. We just finished up the study on Esther and learned a lot of new things. I believe this will be no different. WE will look at such topics as Choosing God’s Will, Wisdom in Relationships, and Forgiveness. Be sure to invite your friends or if you don’t already attend this class, you are welome to come this week. I pray this will be a help to you as we learn this together.
Just a reminder: There are a few new posts on Charley’s blog (My thoughts between Sermons). If you want to leave a comment you will need to leave it here. For some reason we do not get the ones left on his blog.

Word spreads quickly

Filed under: Uncategorized — brendabeckner @ 8:18 am

Have you ever thought about how gossip and bad news “Spreads quickly through the camp”.  As I was pondering on this past series of superheroes of the bible, I thought about how we are to be sharing and spreading the news but don’t do it as well unless it is something juicy to tell.  With VBS coming up and all the hard work going into that as well as childrens church on Sunday night, let us be reminded that we need to continue to spread the word quickly through the camp about how God is working in this church so that people will want to come and see what they are missing.  Jesus commands us to spread the word.

One Year Anniversary

Our Superhero this week was Mark. Wow, who would have thought. I’m not sure about the rest of you, but Mark is someone who I new little about. But what a blessing to know more now.

The choir sang “Living by Faith” and did a great job. Brenda sang a song that reminded us of the work that still needs to be done. there are many even here in Athens that have never heard the gospel. Kenny and Pastor Harmon also sang 2 great songs.

Last night the kids met a new superhero. This week it was Charles Abernathy and he taught us that heroes are generous. We have also met in the past few weeks Captain Endurance and Lady Truth. The kids are still having a great time.

Next week there will be no CC. because it will be the first night of VBS. We have the privilege of having the Ramsey’s as out guest. They will be doing the story of pilgrims progress. The Ramsey’s do this as a ministry and from what I hear they are great at it. I can’t wait. Remind everyone you know about our VBS. This is for all ages, even adults.

Yesterday was the first anniversary of our first official Sunday at Mt. Jackson. Let me say that we appreciate what you all have meant to us this past year. You have been so encouraging and giving. We cannot say enough how thankful we are for each one of you and your support. We certainly could not do it without you. We look forward to another great year.

Testimonials

Filed under: Uncategorized — Phyllis Rice @ 8:22 am

Hello everyone. I hope everyone had a great 4th. Charley and I would like to say thanks to Sandy and Dana Pettrey for including us in their family celebration.

This Sunday my family will celebrate the first anniversary of our ministry at Mt. Jackson. Let me say that we are so thankful for the way you all have excepted us into the church family. Serving this church is a real honor.

I am working on the about page for this blog and I would like to add some testimonials of why you love Mt. Jackson and why you have made it your church home. So, I’ll give you a choice. You can either leave it in the comment section here, or you can email it to me (parice41@gmail.com) and we will include it on the “about” page. Remember, I want as many as I can get so don’t pass this up. Also if you know someone who you think would like to participate, but they don’t have internet, have them write it out and get it to me as soon as possible.

Thank you for all you do and for what you mean to us. God bless you and I pray you have a great day.

It’s Independence Day

Filed under: General — Phyllis Rice @ 4:41 am

This will be a quick post today. I know many of you will not be on your computer today, so we probably won’t have a lot of readers. As I was thinking this morning about my post I went over to Merediths blog and read a great post. So I think I’ll just send you over there today. Be sure to take the time to read it. It’s very good.

Happy Birthday America

Filed under: Uncategorized — brendabeckner @ 6:11 am

We are celebrating once again our Nations Birthday and I have no doubts that when we say “4th of July” that it holds multiple emotions for everyone.  For some it may be just a day off from work or another day like any other.  But, for most, it so much more.  It reminds us of our heritage and what prices were paid to FREE.  For some, it brings back memories of lost loved ones fighting for our right to live in the land of the free.   For Others, it could be living with someone who has been wounded fighting for our rights of Freedom.   This country was born through the hearts of God fearing men and regardless of what it meaning it bring in our lives, I would venture to say it usually revolves around the word “Free”.    Our Country’s birth and the multiple wars that have been fought since often make up feelings of the day.  Let’s give tribute today of what our country means to us.  I am sure that every response will be different but very similar.

I will start with saying that every holiday or special event that encompasses our Country, I think of my Husband who served freely for his country and was a  young man who signed up during Vietnam even though his family was against it.  Following his deployment, he then served 28 years in the Army National Guard and I heard/saw first hand what many endure being as military families.   He is still a big part of that heritage today for our family.  Thank you Jim, for serving for us.

Let us not forget the Ultimate price for Freedom.  Thank you, Jesus, for dying on the cross for me so that I may be free.   I am FREE, Indeed.

Happy Birthday America, God Bless America, God Bless our Troops.

Let me just start off this post this morning by saying thanks to the ones of you who are faithful in reading this blog. I’m truly amazed at the number of people who read it.

Yesterday was a great day. We started off the service with a few great hymns and then had three specials. Thanks to those who are always willing to participate in the music. It is such an important part of the service. But we had a real treat when Pastor Harmon preached a sermon on one of the most well known heroes of the Bible, David. Pastor Charley topped it off last night with another sermon about David.

The second Sunday of the new children’s church program was last night and we had a great time. Last week the kids learned about a hero named Captain Endurance and that we should never get tired of doing good. Last night it was Lady Truth. We learned we should always tell the truth even if we get in trouble. I know most of you are not able to be with the kids so here are a few pictures.
I hope you all have a great week, and enjoy your Independence Day.
