Sunday’s Message

Filed under: News — Phyllis Rice @ 9:34 am

This Sunday, Pastor Charley will be speaking on the topic, “How we can know we are saved”. I know that there are many who struggle with doubt and it can even go on for many years. If this is you or you know someone who doubts, be sure to call and invite them. We’re also looking forward to some great music too. Hope to see you all Sunday. Have a great weekend.

Jesus

Filed under: General — Phyllis Rice @ 8:22 am

What a lovely name
No other name fills
My heart with joy and
Love like the name of Jesus
No other can stop
the flow of tears or start
them like Jesus
How sweet the sound,
The sound of His Name
Oh the power and gentleness
it sounds to my soul.
What a beauty I see when
I look through the
eyes of Jesus.
What a lovely name
No other name can be
found as lovely
Yesterday, today
or tomorrow-Jesus
What a lovely name.

What are your desires?

Filed under: Sunday Review — brendabeckner @ 10:17 am

Psalm 37:4  Delight thyself also in the Lord: and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

How many times have we heard this verse and not focus on the meaning.   On Sunday in our ladies SS school class, we talked about this verse and how the desires of our heart  should be deeper than what we think (usually materialistic viewpoints).  We talked about how God will put the desires to serve him when we delight in him.  Not that I don’t delight now, but I often wish that I could have the desire to serve that I once had when I was first saved.  It was an innocent, humbling time.  Although now I am much more mature in my walk with the Lord but it is important to not forget that feeling of newness that excites us and gives of those humbling desires to serve Him.  Let’s tell others about Jesus and work for Him anyway that we can and He will give us the desire to be a servant.

It excites me when God reveals deeper meanings in the scriptures.  You know, the light bulb goes off and WOW what a feeling.

Sunday, August 26th

Filed under: Sunday Review — Phyllis Rice @ 11:31 am

Wow, we really got our toes stepped on yesterday didn’t we? We are commanded to serve the Lord. That’s the lesson we learned from God’s word. We also had that same basic lesson in our SS class. (Not planned, by the way) Again music that encouraged us to do what we were born to do. Born to Serve the Lord. Kenny and Pastor Hamon did a wonderful job on their songs. We do all need to ask God to show us in what area He would have us to serve others.

The kids had a little wrap up party last night too. We closed our series “Heroes of Mega City” and will next week begin our series called “Shipwrecked”. I look forward to it being every bit as good as the other.

Look for anouncements later on this week, a post from Brenda tomorrow, and another poem written by Bill Vance. God bless you all and have a great week.

Shipwrecked

Filed under: Youth — Phyllis Rice @ 10:02 am

We have decided on the next CC theme and the new series is “Shipwrecked”. Here’s a lttle about it.

A journey of discovery through the life of Paul
Trapped on an island they think is deserted, two castaways, Aaron and Jamie, face hunger, weather, sibling rivalry, and the sound of something they can’t even see. Will they survive? Will they be rescued? Will they ever learn to get along? Find out as we learn some valuable lessons from the life of Paul.

Can’t wait for this new series. I’m sure it will be as great as “Heroes of Mega City”.

A Poem by Bill Vance

A witness of Love

I heard the music
and I knew the words
but I couldn’t sing them.
I saw the way but I
wouldn’t go.
He told me to follow
but still I wouldn’t go.
He reached out for me
and I turned away.
He cried out my name
but I wouldn’t listen.
I saw the tears shed
for me, I felt the shame,
still I would not accept
His sweet holy name.
To think that I might still
be that way today if the
devil got his way
but someone loved me enough
to pray and tell me about Jesus.
Thank you Father for sending my
brother who knew how to pray
the sinner’s prayer.

Big sin/Little sin

Filed under: Uncategorized — brendabeckner @ 10:02 am

Sunday’s sermon prompted  numerous conversations/discussions in our household in the past day or so.  I wanted to share some food for thought and maybe it can spark some discussions in your household.  My husband is very strongly opinionated when it comes to big sins over little sins.   It is his pet peeve that people in general (especially Christians), will focus on big sins, while their dabbling in little sins that they think they are getting by with.   Sins like murder, adultery, liars, molesters, stealing, etc., are getting the big amens but, lets remind ourselves about backbiting, gossip (even when it is the truth), stomping on our neighbors when they are down or in sin, hurting others reputation and character, lack of compassion, and one of my favorites, selfishness.  Let’s all be reminded that it is all about Jesus and if we wrap ourselves in him everything else will fall into place.    We need (myself included) to examine ourselves daily and we will find that we dabble in little sin and even though we may not see it, OTHERS DO!!!!

Sunday Review

Filed under: Uncategorized — brendabeckner @ 12:24 pm

Can you believe another Sunday has come and gone?  Time just flies by when you are having fun.  So let’s take a moment and recap.  I have to admit that I only heard bits and pieces of the entire service do to nursery duty.   We tried our best to listen and pay attention as much as possible butt the babies didn’t want to listen as much as we thought they would. haha.

Amy, I am envious, God forgive me.  Your singing is outstanding.  You have such a talent that God has blessed you with.  Keep using it.

The choir is getting better and better.  Hold your heads up and be proud because your doing a great job.

Pastor Harmon did a wonderful job filling in for Charley and brought us a message that all of us should take to heart.  Of all of the little messages within the message, what stuck with me the most was to Let God be our guide and the center of our mission at Mt. Jackson Baptist Church.   Don’t let our tongues or others tongues guide us, because the damage is  not always repairable.

We want to thank God for Charley and Phyllis’s safe trip home.  We missed you.

Have a great week.

PS.   The kids studied about loyalty last night. It was an exciting night because Pow and Kabam finally passed their super hero final.  Both passed the loyalty test and the rest is history.  We had a great time.

Oh Well!!!

Filed under: General — brendabeckner @ 10:35 am

Today is Friday, Thank God.  I have enjoyed writing this week for Phyllis; however, I feel all alone without comments from my friends.  You all are a hard bunch.  I was hoping to have some good interaction.  So, I am not putting a subject here and if any of you that take a look today have something of interest, please feel free to comment.   I promise I will comment.  Have a great day.  Don’t forget to pray for our churches getting ready for Sunday Services all over the world.
